Max Kennedy battled his way inside the cut-line at the Puerto Rico Open to earn a Saturday tee slot on his PGA Tour debut.

Early on his inward nine on Friday, Kennedy had fallen outside the cut-line after dropping three strokes on the 16th, 17th and 2nd - he began on the 10th.

This left him on four-under par, one stroke outside the cut-mark at Grand Reserve CC. However, a timely birdie on the third and another at the short seventh hole, saw him book his spot for the weekend.

His one-under round of 71 left him at six-under par overall.

The 23-year old Kennedy currently plays on the HotelPlanner Tour - previously the Challenge Tour - Europe's second-tier tour.

He earned a slot in the Puerto Rican Open after winning last year's General Hackler Championship with the University of Louisville.

The Dubliner sits nine shots adrift of the midway leader, Denmark's Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, who has posted rounds of 64 and 65.

He leads by one stroke from America's Davis Riley, who carded four successive birdies on the back nine to record a 66.
