Max Kennedy has made an impressive start to his first PGA Tour event, sitting in tied-10th after an opening round 67 at the rain-interrupted Puerto Rican Open at Grand Reserve CC.

Midway through Round 1, Kennedy is in the clubhouse at five-under par, lying four strokes adrift of joint-leaders Chris Gotterup and Kevin Roy.

The Dubliner's round was ignited by three birdies on the trot on the third, fourth and fifth - all par fours.

A bogey at the par-three seven was followed by another birdie at the par-5 ninth to ensure he was out in 33.

Kennedy maintained his momentum on the back nine with further birdies on the 12th and the short 15 hole before the heavy rain briefly stalled play while he limbered up on the 17th tee.

On the resumption, he concluded with two pars to sit on -5 overall.

The 23-year old Kennedy currently plays on the HotelPlanner Tour - previously the Challenge Tour - Europe's second-tier tour.

He earned a slot in the Puerto Rican Open after winning last year's General Hackler Championship with the University of Louisville.

With the Arnold Palmer Invitational underway at Bay Hill, just seven of the world's top 100 are in the field at Grand Reserve.
