Ireland suffered a 1-0 defeat to Zimbabwe after the third and final match of their T20 series was abandoned in Harare.

Wet weather had forced the first fixture of the series to be called off and after the hosts edged a tight second T20 on Sunday, the tourists could only level with a victory on Tuesday.

A rain delay forced the match to be reduced to 18 overs, but Zimbabwe could only complete their innings on 142 for six before the umpires abandoned the game.

Matthew Humphreys and Craig Young made early inroads for Ireland before Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza steadied the ship with 34.

Raza hit two fours alongside a pair of maximums before Gareth Delany claimed two wickets in one over to reduce the hosts to 67 for four.

Tony Munyonga took the game to Ireland with more lusty blows, but Young ended his innings on 26 and Paul Stirling's side were denied the chance to chase down 143 for victory due to heavy rain.

Ireland will return to action in May when West Indies visit Dublin for a month-long white-ball series.
