Racing will go ahead as planned at Punchestown today after the track was found to be fit for racing following an early morning inspection.

Officials walked the course this morning after heavy rain on Sunday and last Friday's meeting being postponed due to a waterlogged track.

However the meeting got the green light, despite further rain being forecast for today and the first race is scheduled to take place at 1.30pm

Brendan Sheridan, IHRB Clerk of the Course at Punchestown, said: "The track at Punchestown is fit for racing and the fixture scheduled for today goes ahead.

"Following heavy volumes of rain in a short space of time yesterday, the track was waterlogged in places but thankfully we had a dry night and the track is now ready for racing. The ground is now heavy, soft to heavy in places.

"When speaking to Met Éireann this morning they have said we will have a dry morning with showers developing from early afternoon.

"There is 5-10mm of rain forecast for later today from around 2pm with possibly heavy showers at times during racing. All races today will be run on the inside track."
