Rory McIlroy will be hoping that lightning can strike twice as the Amgen Irish Open returns to the K Club in September.
The four-time major winner will look to add another home title to his roll of honour as he returns to the scene of his 2016 triumph, securing the Irish Open for the first and only time.
McIlroy had to settle for second place in last year's tournament, which was hosted in his native County Down, losing out on the final hole to finish just one shot behind champion Rasmus Hojgaard.
"I’m excited to be returning to The K Club for the Irish Open later this year," said McIlroy.
"Playing in the Irish Open, in front of your home fans, is always a special experience. Growing up as a kid, I have so many great memories of going to the Irish Open, soaking up the atmosphere and hoping to catch a glimpse of some of my favourite players.
"The support the Irish players receive is unmatched. The scenes at Royal County Down last year were unforgettable. While I unfortunately came up just short that week, the roars walking down the 18th hole and the energy from the crowd will stay with me forever."
Back at the 2016 event, McIlroy produced two of the best shots of his career to come from behind to storm to victory over the final holes with his two approach shots to the par five 16th and 18th holes played to perfection.
McIlroy stunned leader Russell Knox – the Scot would come back and win the trophy in 2018 – by turning a one-shot deficit into a three-stroke victory over the course of the final three holes.
"The K Club has always been a fantastic venue, and I’m sure the fans will be out in force again this year," said McIlroy. "I can’t wait to be a part of it and to share another amazing week with everyone there."
