Republic of Ireland international Ellen Molloy has ended her four-month spell at Sheffield United and will return home.

The Kilkenny-born midfielder joined the Blades from Wexford Youths last September but the English second tier club confirmed on Friday that she "has returned to Ireland for personal reasons after the club agreed to a mutual termination of the midfielder's contract".

Speaking to Sheffield United's social media channels, the 20-year-old said she appreciated her albeit brief time at the club.

"I want to thank all the players, staff and fans for making me feel so welcomed and appreciated at this amazing club," she said.

"Although it was short lived, I am so grateful for my time at Sheffield United and wish the club every bit of success for the rest of the season and the future."

At international, Molloy returned to the Ireland squad after a two-year absence in October, featuring as a substitute against Georgia at Tallaght Stadium and has won six senior caps to date.
