The Republic of Ireland's 6-0 win in Tbilisi makes tonight's Euro 2025 play-off semi-final second leg a formality, a runaround under the lights and a chance to have a look at some fringe players.

Last week Eileen Gleeson was sincere in her warnings about complacency, but the reality is her team were pretty poor against Georgia four days ago and still cruised to victory. The gulf is just that big.

That said, Israeli coach Iris Antman organised the minnows well at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, and the final scoreline wasn't a true reflection of their efforts.

Only Katie McCabe's penalty separated the sides after a dour first half, but as Georgian limbs tired, the goals began to flow. Five more Irish efforts (three in the last eight minutes) coated an underwhelming performance with a thick layer of polish.

Ireland go into tonight's second leg knowing they are heading for a play-off final in the winter against either Wales or Slovakia. There's a core of players guaranteed to start those games, provided they are fit, but others are scrapping for an opportunity.

This fixture will give those on the fringes a chance to stake a claim.

Jessie Stapleton (C) will hope for a start tonight

Gleeson hinted that she'll hold back the least experienced members of her squad until later in the game when she said: "With a strong start we'd be hoping to get some young players or less experienced players in to a nice environment where they can feel free to play then."

So we'll have changes to the starting line-up, but nothing too radical.

Abbie Larkin did her chances no harm a few days ago. The Crystal Palace winger was Ireland's brightest spark throughout on the right and it would be interesting to see how she'd dovetail with Heather Payne - unused last Friday. However, it's more likely Payne will start in a straight swap between the two.

Jessie Stapleton scored her first senior goal in Tbilisi and looks certain to be named in the XI, either in the deep-lying midfield role occupied by Tyler Toland or as one of the back three. Toland is one booking away from missing the first leg of the play-off final so she might not be risked in any capacity.

Izzy Atkinson will hope to get a spin at left wing-back, which would allow captain Katie McCabe to roam centrally, as she did in the second half against Georgia after switching positions with Julie-Ann Russell.

Kyra Carusa could do with another blowout and is expected to lead the line, with Leanne Kiernan potentially playing off her in place of Russell.

On the bench, Cork City Eva Mangan will be anxiously watching Gleeson on the touchline, hoping to be summoned for what would be a debut appearance.

Ellen Molloy is back in the fold after a two-year absence

Ellen Molloy has made a good start to the season with Sheffield United and was singled out for praise by Gleeson when she named her squad two weeks ago. It's two years since the 20-year-old Kilkenny native pulled on the green jersey; it would be a welcome sight if she graced the Tallaght Stadium pitch at some point.

There will be a bit of continuity. Denise O'Sullivan, Anna Patten, Caitlin Hayes, McCabe and Carusa will likely provide a senior spine, while Courtney Brosnan is expected to return between the posts having served a one-game suspension. Athlone Town stopper Katie Keane has linked up with the Ireland Under-19s ahead of their friendlies in Belgium later this week.

Apart from Diane Caldwell - still struggling with a back injury - everyone is fit and healthy following the trek back from Georgia.

"From our point of view, we want to start the game how we finished it (on Friday), which was a lot more controlled, patient," McCabe said yesterday.

"We connected our play a lot better in the second half, and had a bit more urgency about us, and were clinical as well in the second half. That's how we want to start the game."

Ireland can only play what's in front of them and adhere to their own standards. They didn't perform brilliantly in the first leg, however on the bigger Tallaght pitch, in front of a sell-out crowd, they could cut loose from the off.

It's tough on Georgia, a country where the women's game is still very much in a state of development. They were really committed and stubborn on their own patch, but all of the Ireland players who featured in the 6-0 win are in full-time professional environments, and it showed.

Georgia might hold out for a while again tonight. Ultimately though, this will be another cakewalk.

Prediction: Republic of Ireland 7-0 Georgia
