Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur was conscious on his way to hospital after suffering a concerning injury during Tottenham's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
The Uruguay midfielder left the field on a stretcher during the first half of the encounter, which Spurs eventually won 1-0.
Bentancur stooped low to head a corner after seven minutes but was left on the ground as play stopped, with immediate concern from his team-mates.
The 27-year-old received medical attention for nine minutes before he was replaced by Brennan Johnson at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham released an update on Bentancur’s condition at half-time, which read: "We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking and will go to hospital for further checks."
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou told Sky Sports after the game: "I don't have all the information but my understanding is he is conscious.
"We took him to hospital just to get checked over. Worrying and always a concern but from what I know at this stage he’ll hopefully be OK."
