Tom McKibbin is on the verge of turning his back on a PGA Tour card to make a surprise switch to join LIV Golf.
McKibbin is close to signing with Jon Rahm's team, Legion XIII as a replacement for the relegated Kieran Vincent, on the tour which is financially backed by Saudi Arabia.
Rory McIlroy's Holywood clubmate is part of the Great Britain and Ireland side preparing to face Continental Europe in this week's Team Cup in Abu Dhabi.
The County Down golfer had a fantastic 2024, which saw him finish 18th on the Race to Dubai standings and claim a dual DP World Tour and PGA Tour card for next season.
There were emotional scenes when McKibbin secured that card, as he celebrated with Rory McIlroy, his fellow club man and long-term critic of LIV Golf.
He would follow Graeme McDowell to the LIV Tour ahead of the fourth season, which begins in Riyadh on 6 February.
