World number one Scottie Scheffler has further delayed the start of his 2025 campaign after undergoing surgery on a hand injury he sustained while cooking Christmas dinner.

The 28-year-old American withdrew from the first tournament of the season, this week's The Sentry in Hawaii, after cutting his right hand on broken glass.

He had hoped to return for The American Express in California next week but will now continue his rehabilitation instead, with a view to kicking his campaign off at Pebble Beach at the end of January.

"After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal," Scheffler said on his Instagram story.

"I am still hopeful to begin my 2025 Season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am."

Scheffler won seven PGA Tour titles last year, including a second Masters title.
