Luke McNally's first-half strike proved enough for Bristol City to maintain their recent impressive home form with a 1-0 Championship victory over Derby at Ashton Gate.

The former St Patrick's Athletic defender got on the end of a chipped free-kick in the 19th minute and volleyed home from close range to help his side secure all three points as the Robins move up to eighth place in the table, just three points outside the play-off places.

"We have a great group of lads and the response to the late setback at Plymouth was fantastic," said City manager Liam Manning after the game. "Luke McNally conceded a soft late free-kick there and today he has come up with the winning goal."

Abu Kamara scored a dramatic late equaliser for Hull to deny Leeds the chance to move three points clear at the summit following a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Kamara opened the scoring before Ao Tanaka equalised from edge of the penalty area for Leeds after 47 minutes.

Dan James seized upon desperate defending to put the visitors ahead with Joel Piroe adding a third. But Joao Pedro dragged Hull back into the game with nine minutes to go before Kamara stole a point in the 89th minute.

Burnley are now just one point behind Leeds after they got the better of East Lancashire rivals Blackburn with a 1-0 triumph at Ewood Park.

In a match of few chances, the telling moment came in the 60th minute with the game's first effort on target through Zian Flemming’s diving header.

Sheffield United are also just one point off the pace after a superb Andre Brooks curler reignited their automatic promotion challenge with a 2-1 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Substitute Amankwah Forson scored twice in stoppage time to earn Norwich a scarcely believable 2-1 win over Coventry at Carrow Road.

Frank Lampard’s side looked set to take all three points courtesy of a well-taken first-half goal from Milan van Ewijk but they were stunned as their hosts turned the game on its head at the death.

Calum Chambers’ first goal in 34 months boosted Cardiff’s chances of survival by earning a 1-1 draw at promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough.

Chambers curled in a fine equaliser in the 21nd minute to cancel out Emmanuel Latte Lath’s 10th of the season that had arrived nine minutes earlier.

Joe Allen snatched a point for Swansea in the 93rd minute as he headed home an equaliser to earn his side a 1-1 draw against West Brom.

Ireland striker Will Keane spared Freddie Woodman’s blushes as Preston battled to a 1-1 draw against Oxford.

The North End goalkeeper’s miscued pass allowed Ruben Rodrigues to put Oxford ahead after 21 minutes before Keane’s 69th-minute leveller.

Substitute Gabriel Otegbayo spared Sheffield Wednesday’s blushes with an 85th-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Millwall.

Yan Valery fired the Owls into an early lead and they should have been out of sight as Ike Ugbo missed a penalty. Three Wednesday players then hit the woodwork before second-half goals from George Honeyman and Ryan Wintle nudged the visitors in front only for Otegbayo to salvage a point late on.

Meanwhile, Mark Robins started life as Stoke boss with a 0-0 draw against managerless Plymouth.
