Richie English has confirmed his retirement from inter-county hurling after nine years with Limerick.
Part of the extended senior panel since 2014, English made his senior championship debut for the Treaty men two years later having played in the National League earlier that spring.
After suffering a cruciate injury just before the start of the Covid pandemic, he was a more peripheral part of the panel, playing no part in the All-Ireland final victories of 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
"After nine years, the time has come for me to leave the Limerick Senior Hurling Panel," English said in a statement released by Limerick GAA.
"It has been an honour to be part of this group and we have made incredible memories. It is not easy to step away from such a wonderful group but unfortunately my body will not let me get to the levels needed for the coming year.
English was captain of the Limerick minor side who won the 2013 Munster title, bridging a gap of 29 years for success at that age grade, while two years later he was named the U21 player of the championship as the Treaty men conquered the age grade for the first time since the decorated side of the early noughties.
The Doon man was also part of the Mary Immaculate College side that claimed the Fitzgibbon Cup in 2016 and 2017.
